The Thing
        By: Keilin Wright
Happiness has always been in my life, but today everything is different. The air gives me shivers. It  smells like death. Death is the worst smelling thing out there. Out of all the days, I feel afraid. I start shaking. It’s dark. I can’t even see my feet. There’s only one street light at the end of the road. My phone is dead. I can’t text nor call and I know my Mom is worrying about me.
I hear footsteps behind me. A tall shadowy figure is slowly approaching me. Every time I speed up my walk,  they speed up their walk. When I stop, they stop. I’m starting to panic. I’m only 2 mins away from my car. I see it under the  street light. I bolt! I hear the person/thing running after me. I unlock my car door from the remote and jump in. I lock the door behind me. Whatever is behind me I don’t see anymore.
“Maybe I’m tripping, it was probably the echo of my feet.” I keep repeating over and over again. As I’m driving, I plug up my phone. I reach a safe distance from where I was and  I pull  over and dial  my mom’s number. “Hey, Mom I’m just calling to let you know I’m on  my way to see you.” ‘Are you alright?, You sound different.” she responds. I know she heard the fear in my voice but I can’t let her know what happened. “Yeah, I’ll be there soon. Love you.” and I hang up the phone. Just then suddenly something jumps on the hood of my car.
I don’t know what it is. It’s not a human. It looks like black smoke with red eyes. I think, I think it’s melting the hood of my car. I start to speed up. It looks like it’s hand is trying to reach through my windshield. Then I passed a light pole and it vanishes. I’m scared, panicked. I was around the corner from my mom’s house. I quickly call my best friend. “Hello?” she said. “ Sa-Sa-Samantha” I stutter.”What’s wrong?” she   Asked. “ I-I-I-I I know you might think I’m crazy for saying this but listen up.” I continue “ But this t-t-t-t-thing just a a-a-a-a-attacked me.” I stutter. “Calm down.” she calmly says to me. “Meet me  at my house.” she replies. “OKAY!” I scream.
I dial  my mom’s number again. “Mom I know I said I was gonna visit you today but a change of plans. Samantha needs my help moving furniture so I’m gonna help her, is that okay with you?” “Of course sweetie, just make sure you tell her I said Hi okay?” “Yes Mom.” I hang up the phone. Samantha’s house isn’t that long of a drive.
I arrive to Samantha’s house. I frantically ring the doorbell. “Woah, Woah, Woah Jillian are you okay, Come in the house and sit and I’ll get you some water.” I run in and headed straight for her room. I quickly turn the knob of the  door and sat on her soft brightly colored bed. She scurries in the room and shuts the door behind her. She hands me the cold glass of water.  “So, are you gonna tell me what happened?”  I vigorously shake my head I  can’t keep the water still in my hand it drips. “Let me start from the beginning.” I said.

As I am explaining to her on what happened, her face slowly transforms from her normal pinkish looking state to as pale as a ghost. Then….. We hear a noise. “Hello??????!, Anyone there??! “We both yell. No answer. “HELLLOOOOO??” We yell again. No answer. We get closer and closer to the noise. Stepping one foot in front of the other. The noise, The noise is getting louder and louder as we walk forward. We stop. We can see something moving. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! We both scream. Whatever it is it jumps up and grabs us. We start punching and kicking it until it falls on the ground. It isn’t The Thing I seen earlier. It’s, it’s……… (To Be Continued)
